Especially since beastmen are so heavily associated with chaos, I can't imagine they're TOO furry or bestial, or else they 1. would be considered a subtype of beastman and 2. would not be sanctioned or given abhuman status based on that fact.
On the topic of whether they fit into 40k, I find that question kind of retarded in a setting that explicitly has space elves and space dwarves and space hobbits and shit. That being said, one can always go with a less weeb and more exotic catgirl design for them (look at the design of Catra from the shitty Netflix She-Ra reboot, for example).
