Because modern work isn't real. What companies demand is that you sit at a desk and pretend to look busy and focused. It's no different than the fake Potemkin village jobs in North Korea, but this just hasn't clicked for most people, like yourself. There's just enough leeway to screw around on social media or shitpost, but not to do anything of significant value.
