More info/lore =/= good writing
Adding irrelevant lore that serves no purpose in other than padding the playtime does not make the story good.
It actually bores people out and make them uninterested in learning more when the stuff that actually matters comes on screen.
You can make the story short and still tell a pretty good story but Shaoji is clearly incapable of that.
