He's good enough for everything aside high ascension IS and high risk CC where he does suck there, but the average player doesn't interact with those meaningfully. For the rest Thorns is a jack of all trades that can comfortably clear everything and can be slotted in any team so he gets used as an easy laneholder and damage assist even if better options exist, plus he's just Thorns, guy is popular.
