Last year we had a Max Verstappen victory, leading Lando Norris and George Russell over the line… but with two Safety Car periods and the majority of the race ran in the wet, it isn’t a particularly good indicator for 2025.
What is significant, however, is that the race ended with most of the field completing a long stint – up to 28 laps – on the medium compound C4, which is this year’s hard compound tyre.
So 2023 is a better guide. While the track has been resurfaced since then and will promote more graining, the 2025 tyres are more resistant to graining, so we’re playing in the same sandpit. That race saw a mix of one- and two-stop strategies, almost exclusively on the C3 and C4 tyres.
Verstappen won with a medium>hard>medium two-stop, making his stops on Laps 12 (during a Safety Car) and 42. Lewis Hamilton in P3 did similar, but made his second stop on Lap 40. Fernando Alonso, however, took a slightly different route, with a medium>hard>hard race to P2.
