The paint here also actually had Mica flakes (I think? might have been hematite) mixed in, so it glittered like modern car paints. In general the Mesoamericans had a thing for glittering and shimmering artwork: Stone mosaics that reflected lights off each facet, and iridesecent feather mosaics, etc.
