The GBA game is just inferior. This isn't an 'old good, remake bad' argument either because I actually played the latter first. Back to Nature just does more with its settings and characters while FoMT guts it all. Even getting all the blessed tools felts like an empty waste of time because it all leads nowhere at the end of the day. Only reason to play FoMT is if you have AWL so you can hook the games up and unlock content between them. Outside that Back to Nature is a better experience.

I still can't get over how wonky everybody looks in the AWL remake. It's too sterile for me. On top of that I don't fully agree with some of the gameplay changes they made. I got through the first year (marrying the best girl of course) then stopped.
