The modern obsession with anime is the result of a multi-decade effort by Japan to export their culture.
Same with shit like sushi, matcha, and so on.

What you're seeing today is chink weebs riding off Japan's efforts unintentionally and the Chinese government sponsoring them intentionally.
People aren't really interested in Chinese culture... yet.
They're exporting their culture by riding Japan's coattails.

Not that this is even a bad thing.
Japan is full of risk-adverse conglomerates and stagnate companies.
They're wildly behind in many ways despite being quirk and almost futuristic in others.
Frankly, a game like Genshin could never have come from Japan.
