Discord and its predecessors used to be openly reviled in practically every MMO General, as there's no denying that IMing clients shifts focus and attention away from the game's respective thread... But given the state of some Generals these days (and the site as a whole), I also can't exactly blame the core Anon of these various MMO Generals for choosing the easier of two options, when wanting to stick together as a more generalized friends group.
I do hate to harp on an unchangeable point (and sound like an absolute boomer in the process), but it really does feel like the newer, younger generation(s) of Anon on this site haven't really learned how to act when they're online, outside of whatever context social media and being in a Discord server teaches them.
The fact that we're not just posting here to shit on one another, and tend to congregate in threads we like because we want to have fun with others doing the same, is a weirdly foreign concept to some of the younger folk, and it's lead to exactly what you've described. Excessive passive-aggressiveness, an incredible frightfulness for being sincere about anything, laughably transparent moral posturing, and terrible post quality overall.
The third of those points is especially cloying, given this site's history. Anyone genuinely getting upset over the existence of loli here (or begging for invites to some nebulous Discord channel instead of wanting to post on-site), for example, couldn't be showing themselves as more of a youngling or tourist if they tried.
(I'm not saying all younger Anon make terrible posts, just that those ultra-short, imageless, Discord-like posts are very identifiable as being written by someone who is young. Or a bot, one of the two).
