Pokemon is in many ways just too popular for its own good. If it were less so, there would not be enough dumbasses who would actually want to participate in the fantasy of becoming a real life Pokemon Master to the point of taking the afterthought that is link battles deathly seriously (and then get mad at them for having neat RPG mechanics instead of being chess for weebs).
