Russia's going unpunished has led to:

◾ a broken system of international law;
◾ economic wars;
◾ shifts of markets;
◾ law of the strongest in action;
◾ new wars/refugees;
◾ the redistribution of spheres of influence;
◾ a change in world leaders;
◾ formation of new borders and a new geopolitical system.

If we're lucky, democracies will be able to defend themselves.
If we're lucky, the new dark ages will not last for decades and will not claim thousands of lives.
If we're lucky, nuclear weapons will not be used.

If nothing is done, then luck will definitely not be on our side.
