i absolutely spent all of ch3 thinking to myself "yeah, this was definitely written after spamton blew up" and about how tenna was totally riding off of spamton's schtick, so yeah, he certainly was justified in his concern. it didnt land for me for a little bit that the intended dynamic between the two was that Tenna was the successful TV star and salesman personality that Spamton was trying and failing to imitate, and not the other way around in a more meta sense, but i do appreciate him more after the fact with that extra depth in mind
its very hard to keep in mind that Deltarune is ultimately intended to be consumed as a single experience, and not as a bunch of disjointed chapters with 1-4 years in between, and the characters are written as such. some aoomer five years from now, playing all 7 chapters of Deltarune at once, without experiencing the 4 year drought, spamton sweepstakes, dess obsession, etc. are going to perceive these characters very differently. thats who toby is writing for
