I did end up playing some THPS4. I think I like 2&3 more but not by much.

I really like how much they get out of a pretty simple set of controls. Firing a few shots to stun, dashing into launch, shotgunning them into a wall so I can unload and/or melee their ass after feels great.

>It's like your taste is "games that fall short of the best of all time but are held back by fundamental issues which puts them in niche." Why do you like to be annoyed when you relax?
Games like that often hit highs in ways other games don't. I don't dislike more "perfect" games, in fact I'll readily say that Streets of Rage 2 is probably better overall than 4 for example. My taste's just my taste. Granted W101 has slowly slid down from my all-time favorite to potentially getting cut from the 3x3 if something else amazing comes along specifically because of its many nagging issues. That said I don't really think that Rez Infinite or Kunitsu-Gami have any real issues, and Forgotten Land's only issue is the slapdash co-op implementation.>>715766782

Fair enough. I think you get the most out of SoR4 in the long haul due to the insane amount of content but if the core of it doesn't grab you then you won't be into it. Personally I've liked the scoring system less and less as time has gone on only because of the ability to full-combo a stage which kills the risk or reward aspect of cashing it out mid-fight since you know the best course of action is always to keep combo because you can then keep it for the next fight. Absolum seems to be operating on a similar system but due to the stages being more segmented you can't FC which instantly makes it better (if only they didn't make it a roguelite as the primary mode and not a side thing like SoR4 Survival).
