nobody "wanted" anything. There's no scientific study that determines the effect the increase of mass had on dinosaurs integument. In modern mammals we can observe how it behaves, but dinosaurs were physiologically and anatomically VERY different.
Yutyrannus shows us that a 2 ton 9 meters carnivore in a temperate to cold region was fully feathered. Albertosaurus shows us that a 3 ton 9 meters carnivore in a temperate to cold region at the very least had some small scales. How do we judge that? What conclusion do we reach?
