I am in one jurisdiction using a different jurisdictions flag neither of which are my citizenship or race. I tend to live in authoritarian speech code places and I agree with their policies and conduct in such things but advertising my general location even without other details is a security risk and a potential criminal violation even though I am not using any internet or accounts registered to my name.

If less than 5 percent of people in many jurisdictions do not turn out then you lose some elections, sometimes less than 1 percent. You should not do things that alienate 80 percent of people when your margins are less than 1 percent. That means that you only have to disaffect .7 percent or so of the people you alienate with stupid, bad actions to have a reversal of advantage.

I know that it is bad to have a dumb PR campaign based on promises and public statements over years, then reverse course on that PR campaign with disastrous interviews, then completely fail to excuse your reversal with overwhelmingly, universally unpopular comments in public. You have 5 different opportunities to not shoot yourself in the foot in that affair.
