I think what really broke the camel’s back, so to speak, was what we got in Natlan. I don’t know about anyone else, but the Natlan we received was not anything like what I pictured when I heard Natlan being described in preceding regions. I heard it was the Nation of War led by the God of War and pictured a burnt and war-torn land, vishaps or other dragon descendents of all types, boneyards of ancient dragon skeletons, etc. I realize that it is not the game’s fault for not meeting my expectations, but I knew many people who expected similar things. The information fed to us in previous areas all created images like this, not the image of the mostly prosperous region Natlan turned out to be.

The Saurians felt like a massive disappointment to me. I know canonically they are indeed the descendants of the dragons, or at least related to them, but they look like dinosaurs. I got hyped to see dragons, and got dinosaurs. My opinion of the music in Natlan is perhaps biased, as I personally am not a fan of rap. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a rap song that I could say I liked, only some that I could tolerate.

Another layer to my disappointment with Natlan surrounded the Muratans that Venti mentions to Vanessa in the Genshin Manga. I fully expected to learn more about them when Natlan finally released, but to my surprise I saw no mention of them, nor did I see anyone fitting the description given. I suppose they might have all died out in the intervening 1000 years, but I still expected to see some trace of them at least.

In terms of the writing, I was put off by the entire idea of the Night Kingdom. It is my opinion that most stories should avoid anything that creates the possibility of resurrecting a character from the dead. More often than not, this just created an impression that death is no longer final and can be reversed.

I got incredibly immersed in the story, I loved hearing about the history and I looked forward to learning more. Where I think the first blow happened was the realization that questions were piling up exponentially faster than answers were given. I started to have trouble maintaining my immersion as I kept wondering what everyone’s motivations were, and we never got solid replies. Why was anything happening? What does the Tsaritza want? What exactly is the Abyss Order’s overall objective outside of the downfall of Celestia? What’s up with Celestia? How the hell do the Sinners fit into any of this if they aren’t affiliated with the Abyss Order anymore (Dainsleif said something in Sumeru about the Sinners having refused to help Khaenri'ah during the Cataclysm)? What happened to all the Knights of Favonius who left on their expedition with the Grand Master (and did they legitimately take every single horse in Teyvat, seriously the Cavalry Captain has no horse and there are tons of abandoned horse carts littered around the world with not one single horse)? And the list of unanswered questions just goes on, I’m not here to compile a full list of them. I think I like how I saw one commenter phrased it. Instead of ever providing answers/explanations, the game keeps piling “vague shit upon vague shit”.

Anyways, I suppose my drift away from the game was a gradual one caused by smaller issues compounding over time.

I’ve got something of a personal animosity for the weapon gacha in Gensin, beginning around the time of Arrlechino’s release. I tried to roll for Arrlechino’s weapon, failed the 50/50 and got a standard weapon, then ground up enough primos to barely manage to roll another 5 star before the banner ended… only to lose the SECOND 50/50 and get the 2nd banner weapon I didn’t want. Spent the last of my spare old gift cards to give myself that last 10 pull as well. That said, I understand it was a gamble in the first place.
