Hard rewrite. They are now mousefolk who are something akin to the borrowers mixed with gnome/goblin tech making. They make stuff out of junk and other abandoned items. They do occasionally take things they think aren't owned by anyone but when corrected try to make up for it with a doohickey for the owner of whatever they took.
