Different species. Bumblebees are larger ground-nesting bees with much smaller colonies (hundreds only), native to the Americas. They're smarter and can feed on some species honeybees struggle with like Japanese honeysuckle by chewing through the side. Experimentally they are known to perform much better than honeybees when in an enclosed environment like a greenhouse. There are lots of species of bees that specialize on particular plants/bloom times throughout the year like miner bees, but bumblebees, carpenter bees, and honeybees are generalists so you see them all year.
