Because he was right in his concerns, Mavuika was placing her faith in... fate, and if a literal god has to rely on a plan that's effectively just a gamble, Capitano would rather take action with a plan that has a solid foundation rather than chance, even if sacrifices have to be made.
Mavuika both proved she was right with both her might in battle and with her friends/heroes.
It ALMOST didn't work, and likely wouldn't if it weren't for the Traveler. But it did, she was right to place her faith in them, a literal god believing in her people and so Capitano lended his full support and, inspired by this, decides that the sacrifice to be made would be himself. For Natlan and his fallen buddies, to win the fight, however temporary, against Ronova.
It's actually a rather nice story arc, but most of /gig/ won't admit it.
