Sakura is not the strongest or toughest character (though she does get pretty damn strong see fight with Chiyo) but she represents the heart of the franchise, the person who wants to see Sasuke redeemed and motivates Naruto to go out and do so. Of course Sasuke falls in love with the one woman who dares to love him even at his worse. Fujos stay mad because they wanted Sasuke to be gay. They wanted Ichigo with Renji and they want Sanji with Zoro too because they dont care about the real theme meanings they just want to masterbate
