The simple truth is Xbox, even just the lower level teams working on Windows itself, is beholden to Microsoft's corporate direction, and that direction has been abundantly clear for a decade now. It's to be more intrusive, more distracting, more locked down, more full of bullshit and ads for more bullshit. There seems to be SOME kind of solid reality to them working on making something less utterly embarrassing for portable devices, but I just simply don't believe it'll be anything significant.
Jokes aside, Microsoft must have some of the most competent software developers on the planet working for them. The problem has never been the actual ability to make something better, it's been the corporate mandates. And it's just not reasonable to expect anything has shifted there to allow for the pie in the sky dreams I've seen around of a brighter tomorrow for windows handhelds. Especially not with the current nonsense around AI and subscriptions.
