this character, Leo Invictus, or simply known as the Lion, was originally a statue, blessed by Mars and destined to lead the Roman legions to glorious victory. But the Lion succumbed to his bloodlust, and slaughtered his own men. He was captured as the monster he had become, and brought to Rome. Instead of destroying him, as it would invoke the wrath of Mars, he was forced to be a gladiator to atone for his sins.
