I just don't see why we need all the extra bells and whistles on the plot either. Ojous want to rock is a fine enough premise by itself that we could have just focused on that and that alone. It's easier to write conflict that way too when you teachers and other students out to shut you down for "tarnishing the classic reputation" and going against hometown values.
