While I do think it could have gone on for a least another arc, the series had reached the point where it could have easily dropped the ball, hard. The perfect game is a real Go theoretical ideal, so there's no way it was going to be showcased in a shonen manga. Furthermore, the level of play was beginning to exceed what the writer (an amateur Go enthusiast) and her professional Go collaborator could authentically express. Using just Weekly Shonen Jump as a counter example, one of the key reasons Food Wars went to shit was that the writer lost his professional chef collaborator and had to begin writing high level food competition recipes even though he clearly knew nothing about food outside of Iron Chef reruns. That last arc is fucking unreadable. Sometimes, it is best for something to find a comfortable end point than to push past its limits into the danger zone.
