I mean the way i see covid is that it was basically a moment where certain groups of people got there way for one time because we were all scared and confused and wanted to listen to experts

Epidemiologists, virologists, healthcare professionals. These people do amazing work, these people deserve respect. However.. they shouldnt get to call the shots on how the world operates. These people care about one thing foremost, stopping suffering and disease. They dont care about the broader picture any more than the rest of us. Theyre not economists, or reporters, or educators, or politicians, or anything.

As i see it we got a new mild disease from an animal that happened to spread due to being from an urban community. Very typical but not an everyday occurrence. We were all confused and looked to experts on answers. These experts only really told us what we had to do to prevent the virus from infecting people and we all believed that stopping the spread of the disease was the best course of action. But legitimately, if we let the virus spread without all this precaution we would all just consider it a bizarre flu season.

I think if we all knew what we know now we would not have locked down. Sure wed call it a pandemic but pandemics are not necessarily the end of the world. The world has had pandemics for millennia. Every single common viral disease is basically a pandemic. We are in a malaria pandemic, also a chlamydia, herpes, tuberculosis, HIV, and influenza pandemics. We dont pull out all the stops for these diseases. Just because a disease spreads doesnt necessarily mean its the end of the world it just means we add another disease to the list of possible infections. Theyre worth studying, but not pausing the world over.

I know its rough to say but sometimes forward progress really does come at the cost of some people. They dont deserve to die but we also cant put in undue resources into protecting them.
