Just like we say that there will be a breaking point in Ukraine’s ability to man the frontlines due to attrition, the warhawks in the west believes in a Russian breaking point in the cost of waging the war that will ultimately bring down Putin.
They still believe that the withdrawal from Afghanistan was the cause of the fall of the Soviet Union and that a similar outcome in Ukraine will bring Russia down.
Remember, their doctrine is "Total Hohol Death". If the frontlines collapse then Ukraine transitions into a guerrilla war against occupation. The goal is to make the cost of the war, in death and injury, economically, politically, too high for Russia to continue.
