So, I've been listening to Alice in Chains's Jar of Flies for the first time in ten to fifteen years.
Nutshell is still an amazing song. But it has that one little hang-up there at the end -- when he says, "My privacy is raped."
When he said that back in 1994, it was at least semi-acceptable to compare tragedy to rape. Like in Jurassic Park when Ian Malcolm mentions, "the rape of the natural world."
It makes it a little awkward to sing along to in 2025. On the plus side, it means that no one is going to cover the song. It's a man's losing fight against heroin. Don't even attempt to cover that song unless you're in the same boat that he is... and just as likely to meet the same fate.
