Honestly, while I did joke about Cacturne being the female one in the pic, my headcanon is already that the child's species can be either the father's or the mother's.
I don't think GF will ever retcon it, though, because it's useful for the player to know beforehand which species is going to hatch. This is also why even mammal-like Pokémon lay eggs. It's just a gameplay abstraction, and it works well within the game.
Anyways though, I love yaoi
