For all the shit I give HIyoko, she's interesting in moments like these where she's really just still a child and can't possibly live without her family on some remote island out of nowhere. We take the cast's independence for granted when it's not really realistic. She's still annoying, of course, but typical high schoolers are a lot more immature than these charaters, and Hiyoko is one of the less matured ones who simply couldn't be accustomed to the school life or live with it, she fell behind her classmates and couldn't keep up, thus became a whiny crybaby with a vile mouth to compensate for her incompetence... hmm. Kodaka could've written kino at times if he didn't hyper focus on his fetishes.
