Just to make this point perfectly clear, the revulsion towards public spending started in the 1980s. There's been no significant development in prison infrastructure, hospital infrastructure, school infrastructure, public housing, etc, since the country had a population of 3.5 million. Its currently 5 million, give or take. Across the board, EVERY major problem the country currently faces comes back to this. One of the richest countries in the world, simply refusing to spend any money.
