I never understood why Russia so allergic to picatinny rail (or similar). This "side mount" approach reminds me of how scopes for Mosin Nagant are mounted... but that's a boat paddle over 100 years old.
(pic is airsoft toy, I just wanted to see how scope looked and it's the first I found)
