Nonfree packages are neither reproducible nor bootstrappable. I prefer the way Guix works: the main repository contains only FOSS stuff (all reproducible & bootstrappable), while Nonguix contains all the nonfree shit. Debian also works like this, if I remember correctly. It just works better.
