They're not trying to censor content, they're trying to create context :).
But the real answer is they want to know who is criticizing them so they can muzzle dissent, which benefits them. Voter id would result in elections they can't manipulate, which doesn't benefit them. They want to whatever they want without criticism, because they fancy themselves nobility. They don't want blowback for the unpopular decisions they make is all, they want to play The Sims and have obedient worker units who only know what they've been told to know and who won't raise a fuss when their standard of living drops, again.
