You'll be fine until the UL 40 with very shoestring budget echoes. From there on, it becomes more efficient to farm solely because you can use the new feature in the data bank to pick your main stats for the big echoes that matter and most of your drops will also be yellows. Just focus on leveling your main DPS and working through story/exploration/quests.
