People still don't understand that anime was created as an extension of Disney post war to bring revenue into Japan from foreign countries?
Anime was created because its easy to voice-over and edit in such a way that retarded children don't understand that they are watching a foreign show. Growing up in the early nineties my family clued me on anime at an early age (I had family in the comic book and art industry). Most of the young kids around had no idea they were engaging with a foreign nation and what that meant when they for instance played their Nintendo or Playstation or watched Saturday morning cartoons like Pokémon or dbz. All they saw was flashing lights and accentuated "battle" sequences.
Its all designed to reel in the foreign audience by creating cheap voice-overs in every language. That's why these characters are different than what the Japanese were producing with their art not 40 years before.
