The reason why you're so invested in believing in one isn't because it's a logically rigorous or well-evidenced theory but because you are addicted to the feeling of special revelation: a belief system which allows you behaviorally to feel significant despite an otherwise near-complete lack of personal accomplishment. It's a way to feel like you're distinguished from the people who "don't get it" and, to some degree, a shortcut to feeling superior.
