The two force commanders standing in the Lucky 38 conference room are who you’d expect to lead each force. The Brotherhood flight commander is a female by the name of Senior Air Knight Valens, an older woman but if Daisy is any indication, incredibly competent.
The Legion commander is a weathered and salty looking Decanus that only seems to go by Marius. He shoots the occasional look at Valens but says nothing. A true professional.
The two are dressed in common wasteland garb, not wanting to be seen by having a Legionary Officer and a Brotherhood Pilot arriving together.
You just finished laying out the plan for them, requesting 60 Legionary soldiers to fill out every single Vertibird you have under your command.
You’ll assist the secondary force hitting the furthest defenses while the main force under Decanus Marius will hit the Depot Administration Buildings. If the Vertibirds are clear to land closer, you’ll shoot off a green flare. If the operation is a wash, you’ll shoot off a red flare. You’re under no illusions that the element of surprise will not be kept so there’s no point in hiding once the shooting begins.
Valens: I was told this is a snatch and grab. The Vertibirds are going to be packed with soldiers, where’s the loot going?
Marius shoots an eyebrow up at this, also seemingly having the same question but letting her take the lead.
[They’ll be flying back to Camp Rex once loaded up with equipment and I have a trusted platoon there ready to unload and get them back in the air. If we can get a fully loaded wing to Rex, that will be a successful mission in my book.]
The female Vertibird pilot shrugs in response.
Valens: That falls under my mission authority. If there’s any risk to my birds though, you’re walking back.
Fair enough. You look at Marius.
Marius: More of a comment, really. You said flight time there is two hours. So depending on how long it takes us to bring these Vertibirds closer, plus the four hours for them flying here and back to Hawthorne. That’s a lot of time to be sitting around on our hands.
Unfortunately, that’s a very good observation and one you don’t have an easy answer to.
[I'm not sure where the closest NCR garrison is but if they send reinforcements, we either destroy them or pull back into the desert.]
Maybe the most unsatisfying answer you could give but the only one you have.
Looking between the two, they say nothing else so you consider the briefing adjourned and send them back to tell their respective teams.
