I've also never played FF11 and was worried about spoilers, but the fights are pretty fun, and a huge step up from the EW alliance raids. No clue how much I've actually been "spoiled" on, you're mostly just seeing cool places and fighting big monsters, it feels more like a lot of nudge nudge wink wink references going over my head rather than huge plot/story details.
