While toxic if enjoyed too much, the poor reputation of absinthe comes from no food safety etc back in ye olde days and the brewers cutting corners, leading to poisonous alcohol mixed into the normal alcohol because people were distilling it haphazardly, leading all the hallucinations etc. And at the same time, it was made as a scapegoat for oopsie poopsies. Did something wrong or baddy bad? Say it was the absinthe and you were crazy because of it
