You're sitting pretty then, that will get you basically whatever you want in Central/Soho/Sheung Wan etc. What do you do for work?

>Weird, I would have expected HK to be even more insomniac than Japan

It does have a late night culture but less of a late night food culture. Though some places do stay open late

>Really? Isn't it everyone's native language? I get that they speak english alright but isn't it a little isolating when locals break out into Cantonese every 5 minutes?

In practice, English is the business language so it's less essential. But by all means learn it, it's just that most people don't both. Expat and local cultures tend to be distinct things with some overlap so it's less of an issue than it sounds

If 'real city' is what you're after then Shanghai is another option. The core of the city was mostly built during the period when Art Deco was booming, so it's incredible for that style of architecture (sadly less so every year as more gets demolished). The bongs built in one style in their area, the French in a totally different style in their area, so it's actually quite aesthetic.

It'll make you a bit sad though as so much of it has been demolished, but in places it's a beautiful city.

Tbh HK is just as bad - look up how Central looked up to the 70s, they bulldozed pretty much everything to build taller buildings, very little of the old stuff survived
