I really don't see what else he could have done. Americans had control over pil field in the north and in the south, thus the Government was deprived of the country's one natural resource. Unpaid SAA just fled and disintegrated without even fighting. Only good thing about that shitshow is that Assad escaped alive unlike Gaddafi.
