Is there any connections with Kitsune and Dakini?
Japanese religion literally syncretized Dakinis into Daikiten who was syncretized with Kitsune and Inari in japanese Buddhism. Lots of japanese Buddhist shrines seem to conflate the two, holding Dakinis to either ride on or be Dakini, and Daikiten to be Inari.
The idea of a somewhat seductive, somewhat enlightened young woman (Dakinis can also be male) who acts as a spiritual messanger and is known for flesh eating seems to be very similar between Dakinis and Kitsune.
Anyone feel their is similarities between the two, like cultural versions of the same thing?
