Depends on the writer generally. He spergs out quite a bit when his family is threatened so I don't think him sperging out on Lex if he kidnapped Krypto is really out of character since he hates him. Sometimes he's portrayed as more reserved though generally since Byrne he's been fairly emotional since they like to contrast him with Batman.
