Every time you see a mercenary with a special boarder around their name they're guaranteed to have;
>1 Unique Item
>1 Item with a Special Mercenary exclusive Mod
Issue is they also usually have good rewards like Divines as their currency, so most people never look at their items.

I farmed most of these in The Ossuary in Act 10.
