A national GDP is a poor metric to use and nations don't use it to measure economies because that would be retarded.
GNI (Gross National Income) is a better measure.
Here's a map measuring GNI across the World.
Saying 'wealthier' country doesn't mean anything if it doesn't translate into the quality of life and the amount the average person can earn. Which based on those metrics India is still mostly a third world nation.
If anything this proves a higher population equals a worse quality of life for a countries citizens.
