My full review for both cuts of 84/85.
CONS
> The semi comic relief hobo is lame & the leads shunningly refusing him when he offers help in the middle of apocalyptic hell is really bizarre & sadly indirectly results in his death.
> Nether the suit nor the cybot's faces look all that great when straight on, the eyes are too large on both.
PROS
> Great main suit. Love the lower placement of the spines.
> The Cybot's mouth, fangs & curling lips look fantastic.
> Wonderful score.
> Probably the best city set of the franchise. Love that despite Godzilla's increased size the modern skyscrapers still tower over him.
> Everything feels sleek & incredibly modernized compared to the 1970s G films.
> Some of the best military engagements & tech porn of the series.
> The boat sequence with the victims of the sea lice being found is fairly effective & moody. Similar to the boat sequence in The H-Man.
PROS ADDED BY THE AMERICAN EDITS
> The added American score tracks from Def Con are great & fit with the original score basically seamlessly.
> The American opening credits are superior for building seriously ominous mood.
> Burr's presence gives a nice nostalgic connection to the original film.
> The American military personnel while a little campy don't go too far & it gives a glimpse at the rest of the world's reaction to these events.
> Dub is decent.
> A few poor special effects shots involving the Cybot are removed.
Possibly most importantly...
> The editing of the build up to the missile collision is vastly superior in the American cut. In the Japanese cut they cut away from the countdown at the last minute & then return to it as a after thought.
CONS OF THE AMERICAN EDITS
> A cool artful shot of Godzilla reflected in windows is removed.
> Reversal of the Soviet's intentions (I personally don't care about this at all it works fine ether way)
