I have not had this experience, but I heard people used to use creosote as a barrier at any doors or windows the ants use to enter the house. Not sure whether this is still used nowadays?

I have an "entente" like this with some small spiders at my house; they are welcome as long as they don't get in my way. Sometimes, I see one that comes to hang out from afar in the evenings when I work at my desk. Crickets can be friendly, too.
