The only companies Hasbro has been buying in the past decade are unrelated to toys.
Mostly just for intellectual properties and media companies.
Shit, i can't even think of the last toy company Hasbro even bought. The last thing i can think of is Wizards of the Coast, but they're just boardgame shit and this was over 20 years ago.
And I wouldn't really call it competition if they're different interests. Transformers aren't competing with GI Joes. It's like saying McDonalds competes with Panda Express. Yeah, they're both food places, but they're not directly competing against each other. Someone who feels like having chinese wouldn't have bought hamburger in the first place.
Whereas people who are starved for GI Joes would buy a 1:12 if there's no quality 1:18 figures available. If Hiya had announced their 1:18 line earlier, Id have never bought any of the Classified figures.
Like i said, i think Hasbro fears the GI Joe market is too tiny to support two lines with similar price points, hence cockblocking Hiya from releasing their figures in the west. Hasbro blocked Hiya's releases so hard that BBTS doesn't even dare import them and they import just about anything.
