Bloodborne is a rather shallow RPG once you actually dig through the intentionally obfuscated systems and realize that your performance is largely a function of your item level and your raw HP.
A level 1 playthrough is rather trivial so long as you know which weapon to build and where the upgrade materials are located. The only difficulty I experienced was that Gherman has a slash attack which has a delayed damage window because it's anime and if you don't get the timing perfect by anticipating when the slash will magically decide to deal damage to you, it'll one-shot your level 1 HP bar, which realistically just means that the design anticipated a moderate investment in HP on top of building your weapon.
