>I mean, if "men enjoying things" means that an entire medium is hyper-targeted to one gender in a way that's toxic to the rest
This doesn't happen at all. Games for general audiences have always existed, as have games targeted towards niche tastes. Stuff like Animal Crossing, Little Big Planet, Minecraft, The Sims, Harvest Moon, puzzle games in general, and even the Mario games are ubiquitous examples. And it's even difficult to see how a game like DOOM is toxic to women.
So the advocacy here is facetious. It's not about diversifying a medium and making it accessible for women (it already was). It's about corrupting and destroying a popular niche; making it so that there are NO games that wholeheartedly cater to men. You don't see men saying that games like Love and Deep Space or Candy Crush shouldn't exist. Men only lament when an IP that previously catered to them is killed or a trashfire game gets made in an attempt to pander to everyone.
>Some people like our orange juice, but other people like toothpaste instead. So for our next batch of product, let's mix in both orange juice and toothpaste! Everyone will be happy then!
Games should be diverse, but not in the modern sense of mixing toothpaste and orange juice together. Rather, there should be a wide variety of games, each one catering to a niche taste. This would include games authentically tailored to male tastes.
